European Tour betting odds get fired up this weekend with the HSBC Champions tournament. Tiger Woods sits atop the golf odds at 7/1.
Woods, of course, offers name value and little else this season. Nonetheless, Woods is the favorite. He hasn’t finished higher than 11th since a fourth-place effort at the U.S. Open Championship — a span of seven tournaments. He’s at least been consistently “OK” over his past three starts, cracking the Top-15 each time. Woods was last seen at the BMW Championship in early September, when he placed 15th.
Phil Mickelson is right behind Woods with 10/1 golf betting odds. Like Woods, he hasn’t had his best game lately, especially over the past few months. “Lefty” placed eighth at the BMW Championship, but that was his only Top-10 effort in seven starts. Mickelson last played at the Tour Championship in late September, when he was just 22nd.
Martin Kaymer has 14/1 odds to win the HSBC Champions. The German may be the hottest golfer heading into this weekend’s action. He’s won three of his last four tournaments, including a victory at the PGA Championship in August. Kaymer followed that up with wins at the KLM Open and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. His last outing was a 21st-place finish at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters last weekend.
Lee Westwood, the world’s new No. 1 player, rounds out the top four contenders with 16/1 odds. He hasn’t played since withdrawing from the World Golf Championships in August, however. Before that, Westwood had picked up finishes of second, first, fourth, and second in his last six tournaments — including second-place finishes at the British Open and Masters.
