The first round in Indian Wells I will take the match between Evans and the finalist of last year's Wawrinka.
Evans maybe playing the best tennis of his career hecurrently have not his best ranking is, but that's because he returned in April last year as an unranked player because he had a suspension of 1 year due to testing positive for cocaine. He started excellently on AO where win in qualifications and 1 round but faced Federer in 2 round. Then he played one challenger in France and he reach the finals but lost 3 sets from home player Barrera. After that challenger he switched to an American tour where he started excellent he got 6 games in a row in qualifying, and beating world number nine John Isner into semifinals, so he came to the finals at Delray Beach ,he secured it and came back to the top 100 team again. But I think the finale was too far for him to not use 3 match points , making a double fault and losing in a tie-break. After the match, he said, " It's easy to say I didn't take the match points but I thought he played great in the moments he needed to play great. It's a little unlucky to lose 7-6 in the third with big chances, obviously three match points, but I don't think I did much wrong. I missed two forehands, but not by a lot. " Here he ended his story at Delray and switched to the challenger in Indiana to catch plug for Masters, got 4 matches in a row in two sets, but could not with Rublev in the semifinals, then passed the qualifications at Indiana Wells. And here he is in the first round against Wawrinka where I expect him to show great tennis because he was a talent for what his whole nation was hoping for him. And this is his moment to return to the big door again.
On the other hand Wawrinka after having had a difficult year and returning again after two surgeries on his knee seems to be slowly gaining a connection but still I think he is not in the best form and that is an interesting and tight match.
They have only one h2h so far and this is on the US Open 2016 where they played a dramatic match in 5 sets and Wawrinka got but saved match point in 4th set and after this victory he got to the title.
Today I expect Evans to cover the offered handicap.
