EPL 2019/20: Chelsea vs Liverpool Preview

Liverpool look to make it 6 wins out of 6 as they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea!

Liverpool have so far looked unbeatable in the Premier League having won each of their opening 5 games and could re-extend their gap at the top to 5 points against with a win as they continue their title chase. They have looked red hot up front with 15 goals (3 per game), but have struggled to keep clean sheets only keeping 1 in 5 games.

Chelsea have been one of the most entertaining sides this season and have shown impressive signs in terms of young players performing. Chelsea could move into top 4 with a win here. They have been great up front with 11 goals, but have struggled defensively conceding 11 too failing to keep a clean sheet and conceding 2+ in every game. Chelsea games have seen 4.4 goals per game on average!

Both clubs have had 4 of their 5 games have BTTS – Yes in the league this season.

Both sides are coming off defeats in their European games during the weekend with Chelsea surprisingly losing 0-1 to Valencia at home whereas Liverpool lost at Napoli yet again like last season as they struggled to a 2-0 defeat. Both sides will be looking for a bounce back here.

Chelsea are still yet to win a home game this season having drawn against Leicester and Sheffield United in the league and losing to Valencia as mentioned before. They have surprisingly been better on their travels unlike last season so far.

Liverpool have won both of their away league games beating Southampton 1-2 and Burnley 0-3, but as mentioned they did fall to Napoli in Europe.

Looking at recent memory, Chelsea have been pretty good against big 6 at home avoiding defeat against each team last season at Stamford Bridge picking up 3 wins and 2 draws whereas Liverpool have actually struggled to win away at big 6 clubs last season only managing a win against Tottenham last season while losing to Man City and drawing the other 3. Liverpool dropped 18 points  since the start of last season and 9 of those came on their away games against the big 6.

Both sides played one big 6 side each this season with Chelsea crumbling to a 4-0 loss to Man Utd whereas Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-1.

The player to watch for Chelsea is Tammy Abraham. 2nd in top scorers list this season and has bagged 7 goals in his last 3 games scoring at least 2 in each including a hattrick against Wolves last week.

Mo Salah is the man to watch for Liverpool. 4 goals 2 assists already this season and coming up against his former club he’ll always be up for it. Salah scored 2 goals in Liverpool’s other game against the big 6 in the league against Arsenal.

Chelsea and Liverpool have a history of cagey affairs with 8 of the previous 13 meetings ending in a draw after 90 minutes (Chelsea 2W, Liverpool 3W). 9 of those 13 meetings have also had Under 2.5 goals. These sides have already met this season in the UEFA Super Cup which ended in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool winning on penalties in a very entertaining game where Chelsea truly put up a fantastic fight and arguably outplayed the Champions of Europe.

Liverpool are favoured to win this match at the odds of 2.02 with Chelsea to win being 3.75. Draw is offered at 3.80. Odds are based on Unibet.
