Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur

BPL 2018-19 – Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Preview

Tottenham go away to Brighton this weekend as they try to snap their 3 game losing streak and are looking to bounce back after losing two massive games against Liverpool and Inter. Brighton have been a fighting team early this season, nearly snatching a point at Anfield, beating United at home and coming back from 2 goals down against Fulham and Southampton back to back so this looks like a very serious test for Spurs. Can Spurs snap their poor run of form or will this be another disappointment?

Key Facts

Brighton are one of those teams who rely massively on home form. They’re a tough side at home, they managed to stay up last season despite having the worst away record in the league and that’s all to fantastic home form.

This season, Brighton are once again looking solid at home. 2GP 1W 1D and they’ve scored 5 goals and managed to beat Man Utd already.

Brighton have only lost 3 times to a big 6 opponent at home in 7 matches since getting promoted. 3W 1D. They know how to steal points. They held Spurs to a 1-1 draw here last season.

Currently, Brighton are winless in 3, but those games have brought positivity. Just a 1-0 loss at Anfield and back to back comebacks from 2 goals down.

Glenn Murray has already scored 4 goals for Brighton and he’s their top scorer.

After winning their first 3 matches, Spurs have hit some awful form losing 3 in a row to Watford, Liverpool and Inter. This is the first time that they’ve lost 3 straight under Mauricio Pochettino.

Harry Kane has been the main talking points as he’s not showing good form. Just 2 goals in 6 games and scoreless in 3 straight.

Lucas Moura is Spurs current top scorer with 3.

Defensively, Spurs have been shaky. 9 goals conceded in 6 games and only one clean sheet. They’ve conceded 2 in each of their last 3 games.

Spurs do hold an incredible record of scoring at least one game in 42 of their previous 43 games in all competitions.

Team News

Brighton: Pascal Gross is still injured for Brighton. However, Izquiredo and Andone are both fit enough to make their first appearances this season for Brighton. Elsewhere, there’s nothing new to report concerning Brighton. We could see Bruno make his first appearance as he was cleared to play last week but didn’t so there’s a chance that Brighton’s captain returns to the first team over Montoya for this game. Otherwise, don’t expect that many changes from Chris Hughton. Expect Brighton to have a go at Spurs defence, they’ve been good going forward at home and Glenn Murray will be the player to watch given his goal scoring form to start the season.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs have been hit with an injury bug recently, but they’ve received some good news. Other than Lloris being still out and Vorm starting in goal, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko are both back in contention to play this weekend which is huge news for Spurs, especially Alli being back. We should expect changes from Mauricio Pochettino after that heart-breaking loss to Inter conceding 2 late goals and surrendering the lead. Aldeweireld and Tripper are both expected to slot in for Aurier and Sanchez. Danny Rose could potentially too replace Davies at LB. Also, Lucas Moura put in a very good shift off the bench during the midweek game and should surely start given his current form over Lamela or Son. It’s even strange to think why he got benched against Inter. Harry Kane is going to be the man that Spurs need to recapture his form, his recent run of form has been worrying and many people think he’s simply tired. If he can’t get going then Spurs will struggle. This is a tough game for them.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Tottenham win at 1.75 holds no value in this match given the current circumstances. In fact we believe that this game is there for the taking for Brighton. Sure, Alli is back but he may not even start after missing some games and Spurs are simply not playing well right now as a whole, doubt Alli alone can change that. Defensively, Spurs are suspect, they have proven to miss Lloris in goal too and that’s why there’s no value to bet on them. Brighton +0.5 is a bet that’s definitely worth the try, you can probably get good odds on that too about 2+. BTTS is another pick worth the look. At home Brighton should be able to score (5 goals in 2 games and put 3 past Man Utd) meanwhile Spurs themselves have scored in 42 of their previous 43 so we fancy our chances here. Brighton will definitely test Tottenham here. We are expecting a 1-1 draw between the sides just like last season.
