Copa Del Rey: Barcelona vs Valencia Betting Preview

Barcelona look to become the first team ever to win 5 straight Copa Del Rey titles as they take on Valencia in the Final in Seville!

Barcelona have yet again put together a great Copa Del Rey cup run. This is now their 6th straight Copa Del Rey Final and 41st in total. Having won the previous 4 and the competition record 30 titles they will seek to continue to add to the record and also become the first team ever to win it 5 times in a row!

For Valencia, this is their 17th Copa Del Rey Final, but only their first since 2008. Valencia have won 7 cup titles and finished 2nd 9 times. They did win in their most recent Final in 2008 when they beat Getafe 3-1 which was also their last trophy. Valencia will be hopeful they can end an 11 year trophy drought with an upset win here.

Barcelona have had a tough an interesting run to the Final this year. Other than the 4th round tie (they entered the competition in that round) with lower league side Leonesa who they beat 5-1 on aggregate, every round was a challenge for them. Barcelona had to overcome a 1-2 deficit against Levante in the 2nd leg which they did with a 3-0 win, then they fell 2-0 behind to Sevilla after the 1st leg in the Quarters once again turning it around with a 6-1 win in the 2nd leg and then they faced Real Madrid in the Semi Final after drawing 1-1 in the 1st leg at home, they advanced thanks to a fantastic 0-3 win at the Bernabeu. 3 La Liga sides faced of which 2 of them were from the top 6 and having to overcome 2 deficitsin the 2nd and then win at the Bernabeu you have to say that Barca have had quite a tough road to the Final.

Valencia haven’t had the easiest runs either to the Final. They beat lower league side Ebro 2-1 and 1-0 (3-1 on aggregate). Then they beat Sporting Gijon 4-2 on aggregate having to turn a 1-2 agg deficit with a 3-0 win at home in the 2nd leg. In the Quarters they faced Getafe and astonishingly after losing the 1st leg 1-0, they won the 2nd leg at home 3-1 thanks to 2 post 90th minute goals to advance and in the Semi Final Valencia beat Betis 3-2 on aggregate after drawing 2-2 away, they won 1-0 at home to get to the Final. Also having to turnaround a couple of ties including one where they had to get 2 post 90 minute goals which they did and facing 2 good La Liga sides, Valencia have well and truly earned their way to their first Copa Del Rey Final in 11 years.

Barcelona are coming into this game on a bit of a down form only winning 1 of their last 4 games which includes the historic collapse to Liverpool where they lost 4-0 in the Champions League after winning 3-0 in the 1st leg. Defensively, they have struggled in these 4 games conceding 8 goals (2+ in 3 of them). Barca did go on a 22 game unbeaten run prior to this 4 game stretch (16W 6D), but considering they haven’t played well since 1st May it’ll be interesting to see whether Barca can recapture that pre-May form or not. They do look quite vulnerable at the moment for sure.

Both teams have failed to score in 9 of Barcelona’s last 11 games entering this weekend.

Valencia are coming into this Final on a massive high. They did just recently had a stretch where they lost 4 of 5 games conceding 13 goals, however they bounced back from that with 2 straight impressive wins against Alaves 3-1 and Valladolid 0-2 which enabled them to secure 4th place in the league and Champions League football for next season.

Valencia’s games have been extremely high scoring lately as their last 10 games across all competitions have seen 39 goals (3.9 per game) with them scoring 23 and conceding 16!

There can only be one man to watch for Barcelona and that’s Lionel Messi. Yet again having a ridiculous season with 50 goals across all competitions, winning La Liga Golden Boot and top playmaker awards on the way while also being UCL top scorer. He hasn’t been scoring quite as well in the cup with 2 goals in 4 apps, but you can never count him out changing that in this one game. In his previous 8 Copa finals, Messi has scored 6 goals including bagging a goal in each of the last 2 Finals.

The man to watch for Valencia is Rodrigo. Not the ridiculous goal scorer like Messi is, but he is Valencia’s top scorer with 14 goals across all competitions. Rodrigo has had a very good Copa Del Rey run with 4 goals in 5 apps including bagging a hattrick against Getafe in that insane Quarter Final tie. Rodrigo is coming into the Final on decent form scoring 3 goals in last 4 apps including getting on the scoresheet last week at Valladolid to help Valencia get a top 4 finish.

Barcelona and Valencia have faced each other twice this season and both times Valencia were able to snatch a point from Barcelona. The meeting at Mestalla ended with a 1-1 draw and the meeting at Nou Camp ended 2-2.

Barca do have a very good overall record against Valencia over the last decade only losing 2 of last 29 H2H meetings (17W 10D).

8 of last 10 meetings between Barcelona and Valencia have seen both teams scoring.

Barcelona have won each of last 3 Copa Del Rey ties beating them in 2012, 2016 and 2018 with Valencia last winning against Barca in this competition in 2008.

Barcelona are tipped odds on favourites to win this game in 90 mins at 1.63 whereas Valencia are the underdog at 5.20 with Draw offered at 4.10. Barcelona to lift the trophy is 1.20, Valencia to lift the trophy is 4.33. Valencia definitely have their work cut out for them here and would be a surprise if they were to come away as winners. The odds are based on TonyBet.

Team News

Barcelona: Barcelona have a few key injury issues. First choice keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Luis Suarez are both ruled out. Rafinha continues to be out while Coutinho, Boateng and Dembele all had injuries last week and missed the last fixture, but all do have a chance to return for the Final.

Valencia: Denis Cheryshev and Lee Kang-in are both out for Valencia while Ezequiel Garay is doubtful.
