Team News

Real Madrid: Isco is out after Apendicitis surgery again as he will be for over a month, also Marcelo has been announced out by Real and Dani Carvajal is an injury doubt although he did return to training and is in contention to start. These are some serious losses for Real Madrid and they’ve come at a very wrong time considering they’ve faced Sevilla and now they’ve gotta face one of the main rivals in Atletico. Lopetegui will definitely have to do a lot of shuffling around. With Marcelo out, we may see Nacho slot in at LB and if Carvajal doesn’t return then the youngster Odriozola may get another chance to start. Madrid definitely could have huge problems defensively. In terms of Isco’s absence, Asensio will probably start there. Benzema should still start regardless of the goal drought.

Atletico Madrid: Atletico have some concerns at the back too. Savic is out and also Gimenez is facing a late fitness evaluation after picking up a knock against Huesca. During the match against Huesca, Left back Lucas Hernandez came on for Gimenez to finish the back so there’s a chance that he may have to fill a void in a position he doesn’t prefer to play in CB. Elsewhere, Juanfran is expected to start at RB after sitting out the Huesca match and also Saul was benched against Huesca which was probably for rest reasons so he should slot back into the starting line-up. Otherwise, expect no changes from Diego Simeone. Diego Costa and Griezmann up front duo will be the players to watch, they love a big game performance.

Betting Tips and Predictions

If both teams had fully fit defences, we’d back an under but because the likes of Marcelo and then potentially Gimenez and Carvajal out there’s a huge risk given the attacks that both teams have. In this derby, we’re going to favour Atletico due to Real Madrid’s recent performance and them missing more key players, plus Atletico will have the mental edge after winning in the super cup. Atletico’s recent record at the Bernabeu in La Liga speaks for itself, 3W 2D in the last 5 and now that they’ve hit some form they should be coming into this match with more confidence. Atletico to win at 4.00 is a good value bet, also X2 (Atletico not to lose) should come through comfortably. We just can’t see Real coping with potentially 2 of the most important players in Isco and Marcelo in this match. Because this is a derby we should see a ton of bookings and potentially see a red card. Given that it’s such a huge rivalry we’d also risk picking up a bet that there will be a red card. Griezmann to score anytime is also worth the look given his recent record at the Bernabeu in the league. To summarise, we’re looking at a feisty Madrid derby and a 1-2 win for Atletico Madrid. Atletico X2, Atletico to Win, Cards over, a red card to be shown and Griezmann to score anytime are our top picks for this battle.
