Tim Donaghy, a former National Basketball Association referee who pleaded guilty to federal charges of passing inside information and betting recommendations to friends, wagered on more than 100 games at which he subsequently officiated. (Reported by the New York Daily News).

Donaghy admitted giving inside information to friends who then bet on games over three NBA seasons beginning in 2003. During the 2006-2007 season, Donaghy bet on approximately 30 games, including about 14 games that he refereed.

Donaghy is scheduled to be sentenced May 22 and could face a maximum 25 years in prison.

Donaghy is taking steps to get treatment for his condition, including therapy with a gambling counselor and attending Gamblers Anonymous meetings.
