Running back Mark Ingram, coming off a Heisman season where he ran for 1,658 yards and scored 20 touchdowns, will not play Week 1 versus San Jose State and could be gone even longer after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday.
"We will make every decision on the future based on what's best for Mark and his career as we consult with Dr. [Lyle] Cain and Dr. [James] Andrews on his progress," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. "This is not an injury that will affect Mark's future ability to make a full recovery in a relatively short time."
Despite his status for Week 1 the Tide are still huge favorites at San Jose State, NCAA Football odds currently have them listed as 37-point favorites in the Bodog Sportsbook. Where things could get difficult is when they face No. 19 Penn State on Sept. 11 in Tuscaloosa.
Also, the quicker Ingram comes back the quicker he can resume his bid to become the second player to become a two-time Heisman Trophy winner. NCAA Player Props currently have Ingram listed as a 5-1 favorite to win it again this year.
